Another cake!

I will be doing a wedding cake for a friend's family member, and I spent a lot of time on a run-through just to make sure I can do it. Everything is made from scratch. The actual wedding cake will be 3 tiers, though.

Jorge's Graduation

Jorge wrapped up his MBA program! After a LONG time working full-time and doing the part-time MBA program at CSUN, Jorge completed his final project and graduated with his second master's degree. It was a long, hot ceremony with a lot of undergraduates receiving their BA's, but it was worth it to see him walk and hear his name called. He has always been an overachiever, but no more school for him, were done! He is continuing to work in the mental health field, but will be able to utilize the MBA for administration and management in the field, and he recently began a coordinator position for the Department of Mental Health.

3D/4D ultrasound

So we got the second run on the 3D/4D ultrasound today, since the first time the baby insisted on having her feet in her face. But, come to find out, she ALWAYS likes to have her feet and hands in her face, which explains why my stomach has been lopsided recently. So it was a struggle, again, to see her face. There was a lot of nudging on my belly, but she really likes having her feet and hands up there. In the first picture, you can only see her hand and mouth, but in the others you can see her face, with her hands. Those were caught in split seconds when her feet were out of the way!

I guess here she's playing peekaboo.
Her little hand.

My first fondant cake!

My first fondant cake! Just one more class left for cake decorating, but at this point I am completely satisfied because I looooove the look of fondant cakes! I took it to work after my class for co-workers to eat, and I had a hard time parting with it; so sad to see it cut to pieces. =( But it did taste good. I have a recipe for marshmallow fondant, which will actually taste good, and I can't wait to try it.

25 weeks!

Okay, so the baby bump is getting bigger . . . quite round in fact. It seems like I'm growing every day. The baby is moving throughout the day, and she is becoming more and more active. Life over here is getting a little hectic. Jorge is getting ready to graduate from his MBA program next month, and after we celebrate that milestone, it will be all about getting the house ready for the baby. This past weekend Jorge tore the carpeting out of what is going to be the nursery, and primed and painted the walls. Next he is going to install the flooring, and we're ordering new closet doors. Aaahhhhh, so many little things we need to get done. It will all be worth it, though. We also registered this weekend at Babies R Us, which took several hours and was exhausting! I'm shocked by how many things we need to get before the baby arrives, they are quite the investment. The due date is quickly approaching, and we are becoming more and more anxious. Stay tuned, because this weekend we're getting the 3D/4D ultrasound!

Update

So there's a lot to update! I'm now almost 23 weeks along, and even though it took a long time for me to show, my belly's growing pretty fast at this point. As most of you already know, it's a girl! I'm definitely rounding out! What's cool is that I have started feeling the baby move. The first time I felt her move it felt like . . . let's say digestion . . . and then I realized it was the baby! It's definitely a special feeling, and what's cool is that Jorge felt her kick one night when she kept moving around. She seems to kick a lot when I'm laying down to go to sleep, but maybe it's just that I am not paying attention to anything else. The cutest thing is that I felt her the other night when she had the hiccups; it's so precious! At first I thought it was just kicking, but then I realized that it was rhythmic and predictable. So things are moving along, and I have been feeling pretty good, at least since I got over my cold, which was miserable because I can't take anything. We're starting to focus more on working on the house, and after Jorge finishes up with his MBA program in May we'll be able to get more done. Next up: redoing the flooring in the nursery!

The waiting game continues . . .

Well it looks like we're going to have to wait another 3 weeks to find out the sex of the baby. =( All this waiting seems to be never-ending. Baby is well, though.

Charlie's first injury

Charlie's 3 months old, and already got his first wound that needed medical attention. Not sure how it happened, but he had a little sore on his arm that he kept biting and we had to take him to the vet. Poor thing is on antibiotics now and has to wear a bandage, and even worse, a cone. He's doing okay, though, but he keeps bumping into things.

16 weeks along!

While the first 12 weeks passed by super slow, this last month flew by, probably because everyone knows now. We still have a lot to do to the house before the baby comes. I expected to be showing more by this point, but I'm still pretty small, and you probably wouldn't think anything unless I was wearing a tight shirt. I have been feeling a lot better, but I get really sleepy in the afternoons and evenings. The most difficult part is waiting to find out if the baby is a boy or girl. We have a doctor's appointment on the 11th, and will hopefully know that day.

Here comes baby!

So, after 11 weeks of keeping it a secret, we finally told everyone close to us that we are having a baby (that was the hardest secret I ever had to keep). Married in September, pregnant in October; we didn't expect it to happen so fast! At this point I'm 14 weeks along and due the 3rd week of July. First trimester was a little rough, but not too bad; most of my issues revolved around eating and nothing tasting or smelling good. Actually, everything smelled kind of disgusting. But this last week has been better, with less nausea and fatigue. Hopefully we'll find out the sex of the baby soon. Even though we only have a 2-dimensional, blurry ultrasound at this point, I must say that our baby looks pretty cute!

Ginger and Charlie

Ginger is getting accustomed to having a little brother in the house, but avoids him a lot of the time. She doesn't play with him the way he wants her to, and she hates it when he nips at her. This video has Charlie trying to get in on the action while Jorge and Ginger are playing; I'm sure Ginger didn't appreciate Charlie nipping her butt!

Ginger has a brother!

Charlie is finally here! We got him yesterday and he still acts like an infant (he's 8 weeks old). Ginger is not his biggest fan right now, but after a day and a half, she's warming up to him. At first she ignored him completely and ran away whenever he got near, but she's starting to play with him now. He's definitely a chewer. Hopefully he doesn't howl a lot tonight; I did not get a lot of sleep!

Cakes

So I'm over halfway through a cake-decorating class and have made several cakes/cupcakes. Here are some of my creations.

Charlie!

Charlie is only 4 weeks old at this point. We met him today, and we will be bringing him home at the beginning of January. He is a tri-color beagle (Ginger is a red-and-white beagle). I'm sure that Ginger will be jealous at first, but will adjust and be a good sister to him. He is adorable, has the adorable puppy breath, and is very loveable. We're hoping he looks just like his daddy when he grows up, because he's gorgeous. Our family is growing!
